The Charleston, Ill., school has received NCAA penalties for its academic performance over the past three years. Eastern Illinois University athletic director Rich McDuffie said the poor performance led to the decision to drop wrestling. Among the wrestlers who have competed for EIU are Ultimate Fighting Championships standout Matt Hughes. |

Lampe named athlete of the semester at USOEC |

Alyssa Lampe, a freshman at Northern Michigan University was named athlete of the semester for the winter 2007 semester. Lampe took home a gold medal at the Body Bar FILA Junior National Championships, and will be attending the Junior World Championships in Beijing, China. In addition to Lampe, three other athletes were named athlete of the semester. |

Broomfield High School is hosting a team from Germany in a featured dual that will raise funds for two Colorado athletes who are recovering from an accident. The dual between Germany and Broomfield is set for May 29 at 7 p.m. at Broomfield High School. Admission is $5 and all proceeds go to the injured athletes. |

Frank Lipoli of Virginia, who has been promoting amateur wrestling events for almost four decades, has turned his passion to hosting Beach wrestling events. Starting this weekend in Oceanside, Calif., Lipoli will host four events this summer, with two in Virginia and another in New Jersey. "Make it fun," is Lipoli's motto. |
