A team of wrestlers from Germany will make their way to Colorado in an effort to raise funds for two Colorado high school wrestlers who are recovering from a terrible accident.

Broomfield High School will be the first host of the Germany team in a dual meet against a Colorado team on May 29 at 7 p.m.  Entry fee to the match is $5 per person. All proceeds from the match will go to the families of Tyler Carron and Nikko Landeros.

Carron and Landeros, both 17, attend Berthoud High School, in Berthoud, Colo. Early this year, Carron and Landeros were coming home from a school dance when they were pinned between their car and the car that hit them.

As a result of the accident both boys, who were members of Berthoud's wrestling team, lost both of their legs.

Mark Schmidt, assistant wrestling coach at Broomfield High School, is hosting the Germany team that Carron wrestled against last year. 

Every few years, Schmidt takes his high school team to Europe, with last year's group going to Germany. Carron was invited to go along with Schmidt's team to participate in the event.

"The accident took place after Tyler competed in Germany," Schmidt said. "After the accident, the Germany team wanted to help out."

Members of the wrestling team at Broomfield High School and alumni from the high school will be facing off with the team from Germany.

Schmidt's goal is to get 1,000 people to the match. He has already raised $10,000 for the families by selling t-shirts with the slogan "Wrestle with a Purpose" on them. 

"I just want to help out these young boys," said Schmidt. "I want this to be a big event and make money for them. They will need it the rest of their lives."

When the team from Germany heard of the accident, them collected t-shirts and warm-ups to send to Carron and Landeros for support. Schmidt said pictures of the boys are up on the German's team website.

Mark Scott, USA Wrestling Director of State Services, said the event is a way for people to show their support.

"USA Wrestling commends Mark Schmidt for supporting Tyler and Nikko in their recovery period," said Scott.  "The wrestling family is close knit. The international dual with Germany symbolizes that no matter where you are from, wrestling athletes and coaches come together to help each other out.  We wish the best to the athletes competing in the Colorado/Germany Dual and continue to wish Tyler and Nikko the best in their transition."

In addition to wrestling at Broomfield, the team from Germany will also tour around Colorado, making stops at Grand Junction, Colorado Springs and Pueblo.
