Jake Clark (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Marine Corps) has been named TheMat.com Athlete of the Week for the week of May 4-10. Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday. Clark won the 84 kg/185 lbs. title at the Greco-Roman University National Championships last weekend in Evanston, Ill. The title was the third at the University level for Clark. In the finals, Clark downed Ken Cook, fourth in the 2004 U.S. Nationals and second in 2003, by a 3-1 score. In his other three matches, Clark outscored his opponents 20-0 and recorded one fall. Clark also placed sixth in the freestyle portion of the tournament, posting a 4-1 record before defaulting out after a semifinal loss. Clark is a member of the 2003-04 U.S. National Team after placing second at the 2003 U.S. World Team Trials. In April, he placed second at the U.S. National Championships. He is a resident athlete at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Click here to view previous Athletes of the Week
