Cejudo repeats as FILA Cadet Greco-Roman champion and Bounds wins Outstanding Wrestler

Henry Cejudo of Phoenix, Ariz. was the only repeat champion in Greco-Roman at the FILA Cadet National Championships at Northwestern Univ. in Evanston, Ill, May 6. FILA Cadets are athletes who are 15, 16 and 17 years old. Cejudo scored a 10-0 technical fall over Anthony Hayes of Vancouver, Wash. in the gold medal finals at 110 pounds. Last year, Cejudo was a FILA Cadet champion at 101.25 pounds. Cejudo was also a Cadet Nationals double champion last summer in Fargo, N.D. Voted the Outstanding Wrestler in the tournament was Kyle Bounds of Vancouver, Wash., the champion at 152 pounds. Bounds scored an 11-0 technical fall over Matt Dragon of Noxen, Pa., 11-0 in the finals. Both Bounds and Dragon were Cadet National champions last summer, with Bounds winnng at 145 pounds and Dragon at 140 pounds. Another 2003 Cadet National champion to capture the FILA Cadet tournament this year was Louis Caputo of Blue Springs, Mo., who defeat Jovan Belcher of W. Babylon, N.Y., in the gold-medal finals at 187.25 lbs., 3-0. Matt Vacanti of Papillion, Neb., a Cadet National runner-up last summer, captured the 119-pound title with an 8-0 decision over Dylan Joyner of Kansas City, Mo. Another Cadet National runner-up who captured a gold medal this tournament was David Craig of Brandon, Fla., who scored a 10-0 technical fall over Dominic Marella of Roselle, Ill., at 167.5 pounds. Also winning his gold medal bout by technical fall was Stephen Larson of Lakeville, Minn., who defeated Zach Covington of Ely, Iowa, 10-0 at 220.25 lbs. Other individual champions included Eric Grajales of Brandon, Fla. at 92.5 pounds, Brian Owen of Spokane, Wash. at 101.25 pounds, Zak Burns of Davison, Mich. at 127.75 pounds and Jon Reader of Davison, Mich. at 138.75 pounds. The freestyle competition begins on Friday.
