University Men's National Championships along with FILA Cadet Men's National Championships returns to Evanston, Ill. May 5-8. It will be held on the Northwestern University campus at the Welsh-Ryan McGaw Hall. The Nation's top college athletes, between the ages of 18-24, will be featured as they battle each other to become national champions. In addition, FILA Cadet men, ages 15-17 will also compete for national honors. "We are very excited to host this event again on our campus. With the elite young guys coming here from all over, there should be some exciting matches and a well-attended event," said Event Director Tony Ersland. Competition begins on Thursday May 6 beginning with the University and FILA Cadet Greco-Roman division. Weigh-ins and registration will be held on Wednesday May 5. On Thursday, May 6, University and FILA Cadet Greco-Roman Preliminaries will begin at 8:00 a.m. and finish at 1:00 p.m. Finals will begin at 3:00 p.m. University and FILA Cadet FS competition begins on Friday, May 7 going through Saturday, May 8. Weigh-ins will be on Thursday, May 6. Freestyle preliminaries for both University and FILA Cadets will begin on Friday, May 7 at 9:00 a.m. going through 9:00 p.m. These preliminaries will continue on Saturday morning, May 8 at 9:00 a.m., finishing approximately 1:00 p.m. Finals will begin at 3:00 p.m. "We draw schools from everywhere; East, West, and Midwest. There were over 900 entries last year in all age groups and divisions. Our numbers are always increasing," said Ersland. Champions in the FILA Cadet division will qualify for a partially subsidized international tour. Champions in University division will qualify for the University World Championships to be held in Lodz, Poland; June 3-6. This event does qualify for the NCAA waiver for outside competition.
