USA Wrestling will host men's and women's Regional Olympic Team Trials Qualifier at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner, Louisiana, April 22-24, 2004.     New Orleans area residents can experience all of the excitement of the Olympics for men's Greco-Roman, and men's and women's freestyle wrestling right in their own community with out having to travel to Athens, Greece.     Many potential Olympians from across the nation as well as from the state and region will be participating in the Regional tournament, seeking to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials-Wrestling in Indianapolis, Ind., May 21-23.      Witness history in the making, for the first time in the Olympics, women's wrestling will take center stage as the only new addition to the Olympic games.     Champions in each weight class in Greco-Roman and both men's and women's freestyle will qualify for the Challenge Tournament for the Olympic Trials in Indianapolis, May 21-23.      "There will be strong competition here at the Senior level because this is the last chance to qualify for the Olympic Team Trials," said Event Director Jim Ravannack.    Since these qualifiers are open tournaments, a list of potential wrestlers cannot be complied at this time. Wrestlers may wish to participate in any of the five qualifiers throughout the country.     "Wrestlers who have already qualified for the trials will being coming also to get some good practice in before the Trials," said Ravannack.    Men's Senior Greco-Roman preliminaries will begin 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 23, and last till 2:00 p.m. Preliminaries through the finals will begin 4:30 p.m.     Men's and women's senior freestyle preliminaries will begin at 10:00 a.m., Saturday April 24. Finals matches and awards will start at 4:00 p.m. and last till approximately 8:00 p.m.    Held along with the men's and women's senior qualifiers will be the Southeast Junior Greco-Roman and freestyle Regional Championships.    The top three placewinners in this Junior tournament will qualify for their state's Junior National team and compete in the ASICS/Vaughan Junior Nationals in Fargo, N.D., July 24-31.    Junior Greco-Roman preliminaries will begin on Friday, April 23 at 4:30 p.m. with medals and finals matches beginning at 8:00 p.m. Junior freestyle preliminaries will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 24. Freestyle medals and finals matches will begin at 4:00 p.m.      Tickets will be available at the door. Ticket prices are as follows:  Adults: $10 per day  Kids: $5 per day    Additional Men's Olympic Regionals took place in the following cities: St. Joseph, Minn. (March 12-14), Laramie, Wyo. (March 25-27), Battle Ground, Wash. (March 27-28), and Brockport, N.Y. (April 16-18).     Women's Olympic freestyle Regionals took place in two other cities: Battle Ground Wash. (March 27-28), and Brockport, N.Y. (April 16-18).
