"Friday night wrestling" will appear on ESPN2, with the coverage of the 2004 U.S. National Wrestling Championships from Las Vegas, Nev. USA Wrestling is excited to announce that the competition will be televised nationally on Friday, May 21, at 11:00 p.m. Eastern time. The one-hour show will be in prime time in three U.S. time zones, a tremendous opportunity to showcase the sport and its stars. The nation's best men and women wrestlers will be on display. This is the most important qualifying event for the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. "This is the best time slot we have ever received for a USA Wrestling event," said Larry Nugent. "It offers our sport a chance for tremendous exposure and ratings. It is important that the wrestling community ask their friends and family to watch this broadcast so we can take advantage of the opportunity." Action from the gold-medal finals will be featured on the show, capturing the quest for individual national championships. The broadcast team brings together veteran wrestling announcers Larry Nugent, Joe Miller and Van Stokes, along with wrestling legend Dan Gable, a World and Olympic champion and one of the greatest coaches of all time. The ability to get wrestling events aired on national television received a boost when the 2004 NCAA Div. I Wrestling Championships received record ratings during its live coverage on ESPN2. Another strong rating would help continue the momentum for the sport receiving future broadcasting opportunities. Wrestling fans are asked to send this information on to their friends and contacts via e-mail, and ask them to forward it to as many others as they can. The airing will be precisely during the first day of the competition at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Indianapolis, Ind. With the 11:00 p.m. Eastern time slot, even those thousands of fans who attend the Olympic Trials will be able to watch the show that evening after the action ends at the RCA Dome.
