At the regional, Trenge defeated two-time Olympian and 1993 World champion Melvin Douglas of the Sunkist Kids 4-1 in overtime. The win moved Trenge into the semifinals. Trenge then won his next two matches, defeating Ty Dennis 10-0 and Ryan Tobin of the Dave Schultz Wrestling Club 4-2 to capture the gold medal. Trenge is a two-time NCAA finalist for Lehigh Univ.
