CALL TO ACTION for the wrestling community FROM: The National Wrestling Coaches Association and the College Sports Council. Please act now to help save the Central Washington wrestling team. Central Washington University administrators announced this week that they planned to eliminate their wrestling team after this season. Your efforts can make a difference. The wrestling community has successfully lobbied to save programs in the past by demonstrating strong support through letter writing. Forward this memo to everyone you know who wants to help save wrestling teams. Please write a brief letter to the President of Central Washington. Suggested talking points: 1. Dropping the wresting team is a shortsighted action that will lead to long-term damage with the community and alumni relations. 2. Wrestling is the most successful sport on campus, in terms of representing Central Washington University on the National Level. The season of 2001-2002 the team finished 5th in the Nation at the National Duals and produced 4 individual All-Americans. Last year the team produced 3 individual All-Americans. 3. Wrestling is a very popular sport in Washington State high schools. 4. Because Central Washington is the only four year school to sponsor a wrestling team in Washington they have a large pool of highly qualified student athletes to draw from. General points: Be polite in your request. Thank them for considering your letter.
