WV/USA Wrestling Bronze Coaches Certification WV/USA WRESTLING OLYMPIC DEVELOPMENT BRONZE CERTIFICATION PRORGRAM INFORMATION: University High School will be hosting a USA Wrestling Bronze level coaching certification course that is part of WV/USA Wrestling's Olympic Development program. The course will allow coaches to create an Olympic Development program for the sport of wrestling in their communities and allow them to work with wrestlers in their coaching assignments out of season (see WVSSAC rule 127-3-7-7.5.) This course, provided by USA Wrestling, will provide them a basic understanding in the sport of freestyle wrestling with emphasis in Philosophy of Coaching, Risk Management, and Effective Teaching, Program Development, Psychology of Coaching, Developing Wrestling Skills, Training and Nutrition, and Sports Medicine. Date: Saturday, March 27th, 2004 (will coincide with the University High School Freestyle tournament being held the same day) Location: University High School, Morgantown, WV Time: Registration for the clinic will begin at 10:00 AM in the Gym lobby. The clinic runs for approximately 6 hours. We estimate to be done at 4:00 PM. Cost: The cost for the Bronze certification is $60.00 and each participant MUST have or purchase a current USA Wrestling Coaches card for $35.00. The total cost of the clinic if you need to purchase a USA Wrestling Coaches card is $95.00. Make checks payable to University High School. Rationale for taking the course: 1. If you are part of an Olympic Development program, coaches may participate out of season in a formal development program of the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) involving students of the same sport as their coaching assignment. 2. Professional advancement 3. Active participation with the National Governing Body of Amateur Wrestling 4. Liability and risk-management 5. Certification at USAW sanctioned events, and active involvement with the state's USAW organization. A word from USA Wrestling on Bronze certification The Bronze Level Certification course is an outstanding way for coaches to further their knowledge and understanding of the sport of wrestling. Each year over one thousand coaches across the country achieve Bronze Certification. Completion of the Bronze Course allows participants to coach at state, regional, and national USA Wrestling events. To achieve certification coaches must attend a USA Wrestling sanctioned Bronze Clinic, complete self study of the USA Wrestling Coaches Guide to Excellence, and complete and return to the National Office a fifty question take home test. Participants must receive an 80% or better grade on the test to be Bronze Certified. When coaches achieve Bronze Certification they receive the USA Wrestling billfold card to use when registering at USA Wrestling events, a Bronze Certificate suitable for framing, the Course text valued at $30, and a USA Wrestling Bronze Certified Coaches' shirt. The National Coaches Education Program's Bronze Level serves as an important tool for coaches to learn more about the most up to date ways to successfully coach wrestling. The Bronze Level is the second step in the NCEP. Coaches can still attend a Bronze Course if they are not certified at the Copper Level. The Bronze Course is best suited for participants with past knowledge of the sport of wrestling or previous experience in coaching.
