USA NETWORK WILL BECOME CABLE HOME OF U.S. OLYMPIC TEAM UPON COMPLETION OF NBC-UNIVERSAL MERGER       NBC Announces U.S. Olympic Trials Cable Package on USA    USA Network Olympic Trials Package Includes 11 Consecutive Saturdays and Nine Hours of Live Weeknight Track & Field Coverage    NEW YORK (March 2, 2004) - - USA Network will become the cable television home of the U.S. Olympic Team and the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for the 2004, 2008, 2010 and 2012 Games, if and when the NBC-Universal merger closes.     The 24 total hours of U.S. Olympic Trials coverage on USA (an additional 18 hours will air on NBC, 12 in primetime) this summer includes 11 consecutive Saturdays from May 22 to July 24 and nine hours of live weeknight broadcasts from the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials, July 9-16, leading to the Athens Olympics, August 13-29. Major U.S. Olympic Committee events, such as the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and the biannual Olympic Congressional Gala in Washington, D.C., will also be included. The agreement with the U.S. Olympic Committee was announced today by Dick Ebersol, Chairman, NBC Sports & Olympics.    "We are delighted to provide a platform to showcase the best U.S. Olympic athletes and to brand USA Network as the home of the U.S. Olympic Team," said Ebersol. "Making USA Network the cable home of the U.S. Olympic Team and the U.S. Olympic Team Trials makes perfect sense - it's as simple as U-S-A.    "We also intend to have Olympic coverage from Athens on USA, if and when NBC and Universal complete their proposed merger."    Unless and until the merger is completed, the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials programming will be run on Bravo.    "We are delighted to be establishing USA Network as the cable television home of the U.S. Olympic Team," said Jim Scherr, Chief Executive and Chief of Sport Performance for the U.S. Olympic Committee. "USA Network will provide unprecedented exposure for America's athletes by showcasing the U.S. Olympic Team Trials and other USOC special properties and events. The USA Network package provides a strong cable television presence for the USOC and our National Governing Bodies, and will allow fans throughout America to connect with our athletes as they prepare for the Olympic Games."    USA Network will capture the drama and excitement of at least 10 different Olympic sports qualifying athletes to represent the USA at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. USA's Trials package is highlighted by nine hours of live weeknight coverage of the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials from Sacramento, Calif. The U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be the final show in the series on July 24.     Sports featured in individual telecasts include track & field, wrestling, men's and women's volleyball, rhythmic gymnastics and trampoline, synchronized diving, equestrian-jumping, water polo and weightlifting. Additional sports will be featured in a U.S. Olympic Trials Anthology on July 17.     USA Network is available in 86 million U.S. television households.    The U.S. Olympic Trials cable package is in addition to the previously announced 18 hours of U.S. Olympic Trials coverage on NBC, a schedule which includes 12 hours in primetime. NBC will broadcast four hours of the U.S. Olympic Diving Trials from St. Louis on June 12-13; five hours of the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials from Anaheim, Calif. on June 26-27 and July 3; five hours of the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials from Sacramento, Calif. July 10-11 and 17-18; and four hours of the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials from Long Beach, Calif. on July 9, 11 and 18.     NBC, America's Olympic Network, holds the exclusive U.S. broadcast rights to the Olympic Games through 2012, which include Athens in 2004, Torino, Italy in 2006, Beijing in 2008, Vancouver in 2010 and the Summer Games of 2012. This August, NBC will present unprecedented 24-hour, around-the-clock coverage of the 2004 Olympic Games from Athens, Greece. The NBC Networks: NBC, MSNBC, CNBC, Bravo and Telemundo will offer the most in-depth Olympic coverage in history and for the first-time provide some coverage of every one of the 28 Summer Olympic sports. Telemundo's Spanish-language broadcast will provide the first exclusively non-English language Olympic broadcast in U.S. television history.
