Opfer named MAC Wrestler of the Week

KENT, Ohio - Kent State University senior Jared Opfer (Sandusky, Ohio/St. Mary Central Catholic) has been named the Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week for the week ending Feb. 15, the MAC Office announced Tuesday (Feb. 17). Opfer, who is ranked fourth in the MAC at 133 pounds, pinned second-ranked Anthony Carrizales of Ohio University in 6:24 Feb. 14 to help lead the Golden Flashes to a 22-18 upset of the Bobcats in Athens. With the win, Opfer improved his season record to 20-9 with three pins and his MAC mark to 3-1. Opfer is a two-time national qualifier at 125 pounds and was the MAC champion at the weight as a sophomore. Home to 18 varsity teams, the Intercollegiate Athletic program at Kent State University competes at the highest National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level (I-A for football) and provides select men and women with the opportunity, challenge and support to achieve their full academic and athletic potential, while operating as an integral part of the University's educational mission.
