UW-Whitewater coach Willie Myers earns 300th career dual victory

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling coach Willie Myers earned his 300th career dual victory Friday, January 30 with a 23-18 victory at Lawrence University.    Myers, who has been the head wrestling coach at UW-Whitewater since 1968, has led the 2003-04 team to a 9-4 dual record thus far this year and a National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Wrestling Coaches Association ranking of No. 23. Myers' career record in dual meets is 300-136-7.    In Myers' first year as head coach at UW-Whitewater, he led the team to the first of twelve conference championships during his tenure, earning him the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Rookie Coach of the Year award in 1969. In his 36-year career, Myers has also coached 60 individual conference champions, 48 All-Americans, 24 Scholar All-Americans, and 17 top-20 finishes in the national championships.     Myers was also U.S. freestyle team coach at the 1977 World University Games and administrator for the 1979 U.S. World University Games wrestling team. He has also served as president of the NAIA Wrestling Coaches Association in 1979 and the NCAA Division III Wrestling Coaches Association from 1985-87 and 1989-91.
