The Dave Schultz Memorial International will bring elite international wrestlers to the mats in Colorado Springs February 7-8, 2004. This tournament will be hosted at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Sports Center 1, and will feature top senior-level athletes in men's freestyle, men's Greco-Roman, and women's freestyle wrestling. To date, 14 countries have sent rosters for expected participants. These countries include: Canada, India, Egypt, Russia, Japan, Niger, Georgia, Germany, Kyrgyzstan, Colombia, Mexico, Thailand, and Romania. Among the top international wrestlers expected are: Greco-Roman 55 kg/121 lbs. Uran Kalilov of Kyrgyzstan (2000 Olympian, 4th in 2001 World Championship) 55 kg/121 lbs. Tabibi Godswill of Niger (1996 Olympian) 60 kg/132 lbs. Mukesh Khatri of India (5th in 2001 World Championship) 60 kg/132 lbs. Koba Guliashvili of Georgia (2000 Olympian). 66 kg/145.5 lbs. Gurbinder Singh of India (2000 Olympian). 74 kg/163 lbs. Katsuhiko Nagata of Japan (2000 Olympic Silver medalist) Men's freestyle 74 kg/163 lbs. Almazbek Askarov of Kyrgyzstan (2000 Olympian) 74 kg/163 lbs. Magomed Isagaschiev of Russia (2002 World Championships silver medalist). 96 kg/211.5 lbs. Alexander Shemarov of Russia (2000 Olympian and 5th in 2002 World Championship) 120 kg/264.5 lbs. Sven Thiele of Germany (2003 World Cup champion and 2000 Olympian) 120 kg/264.5 lbs. David Otiasvili of Georgia (4th in 2002 World Championships). Women's freestyle 51 kg/112 lbs. Brigitte Wagner of Germany (2002 World Champion and two-time European Champion in 2002-03) 55 kg/121 lbs. Hannah Sanni of Niger (2003 All African Games silver medalist) 59 kg/130 lbs. Christina Oertli of Germany (5th in 2002 World Championship and 4th in 2003 European Championship) 63 kg /138.5 lbs. Stephanie Mary Gross of Germany (5th in 2003 World Championship and 2000 World Championship bronze medalist) 67 kg/147.5 lbs. Anita Schaetzle of Germany (2003 European Champion) The top athletes from other countries without submitted rosters may also attend. Numerous champions from the United States are also expected. Men's freestyle, Greco-Roman, and women's freestyle preliminaries will begin Saturday, February 7 at 9:00 a.m. All three styles will continue on Sunday, February 8 starting at 9:00 a.m. with semifinals and thrid place matches. Finals will start at 3:30 p.m. (This schedule is subject to change). Tickets are available at the door.
