The U.S. rosters have been finalized for the 2004 U.S. Men's Freestyle Winter Tour. The first event on this year's Winter Tour will be the Dan Kolov Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria, Feb. 14-15. Representing the United States at the Dan Kolov International in Sofia, Bulgaria, Feb. 14-15 will be 2003 U.S. World Team members Eric Guerrero (Stillwater, Okla./Gator WC) at 60 kg/132 lbs. and Daniel Cormier (Stillwater, Okla./Gator WC) at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. Guerrero has competed in four World Championships, placing seventh in 1999 and 10th in 2003. He also captured a gold medal at the 2003 World Cup and has won three U.S. Nationals titles. Cormier placed fifth at the 2003 World Championships. He won a gold medal at the 2003 Pan American Games and a bronze medal at the 2003 Ivan Yarygin Cup. The U.S. coaches at the Dan Kolov International will be announced later. 2003 World silver medalist Cael Sanderson (Ames, Iowa/Sunkist Kids) will compete at the Kiev Grand Prix in Kiev, Ukraine, Feb. 20-21. Sanderson will compete at 84 kg/185 lbs. He has won three consecutive U.S. Nationals titles. He also captured a bronze medal at the 2003 Pan American Games. He will be joined by 2003 U.S. World Team member Jamill Kelly (Stillwater, Okla./Gator WC) at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. Kelly won a silver medal at the 2003 Pan American Games. 2001 World silver medalist Brandon Eggum (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm) will compete at 84 kg/185 lbs. Eggum placed third at the 2003 U.S. World Team Trials. He also won a silver medal at the 2002 Pan American Championships. Tim Hartung (St. Paul, Minn./Minnesota Storm), a 2002 U.S. World Team member, will compete at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. Hartung was a 2002 U.S. Nationals champion and won a gold medal at the 2003 World Cup. Three-time U.S. National Team member Lee Fullhart (Chattanooga, Tenn./Gator WC) will join the U.S. squad at 84 kg/185 lbs. Fullhart won a gold medal at the 2003 Pan American Championships and a bronze medal at the 2002 World Cup. He is a two-time U.S. Nationals runner-up. College star Steve Mocco (N. Bergen, N.J./New York AC) will continue to gain international experience, as he will compete at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. Mocco, who is seeking an Olympic Redshirt year, recently won a silver medal at the prestigious Ivan Yarygin Cup and captured gold medals at the 2003 Sunkist Kids International Open and 2003 New York Athletic Club Christmas International. Also competing for the United States will be 2003 U.S. National Team members Mike Mena (Bloomington, Ind./New York AC) and Teague Moore (Stillwater, Okla./Gator WC) at 55 kg/121 lbs., Mike Zadick (Solon, Iowa/Hawkeye WC) at 60 kg/132 lbs., Bill Zadick (Iowa City, Iowa/Hawkeye WC) at 66 kg/145.5 lbs., Joe Heskett (Grover Beach, Calif./Gator WC) at 74 kg/163 lbs., Dean Morrison (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. and Tolly Thompson (Waterloo, Iowa/Sunkist Kids) at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. Mena placed second at the 2003 U.S. World Team Trials and has placed fourth at the U.S. Nationals three times. Moore won a silver medal at the 2003 World Cup. He won a U.S. Nationals title in 2002 and placed second in the 2002 U.S. World Team Trials. Mike Zadick placed second in the 2003 U.S. World Team Trials and third in the 2003 U.S. Nationals after a decorated college wrestling career at the Univ. of Iowa, where he was a three-time NCAA All-American. Bill Zadick, the older brother of Mike, placed seventh in the 2001 World Championships and won a silver medal at the 2003 World Cup. He has won two U.S. Nationals titles. Zadick currently serves as a volunteer assistant coach at the Univ. of Iowa. Heskett placed second in the 2003 U.S. Nationals and 2003 U.S. World Team Trials. He is a three-time champion of the Sunkist Kids International Open. Morrison was second at the 2003 U.S. Nationals and won the 2003 U.S. World Team Trials. He won a gold medal at the 2003 Pan American Championships. Thompson is a two-time Pan American Championships gold medalist. He was a 1998 U.S. Nationals champion and is a three-time U.S. Nationals runner-up. Thompson has won three bronze medals at the Kiev Grand Prix (2000-02). Rounding out the U.S. roster will be Ramico Blackmon (Colorado Springs, Colo./Team Excel) at 74 kg/163 lbs. Blackmon won a U.S. Nationals title in 2001 and placed third at the U.S. World Team Trials that same year. He recently won the 2003 Sunkist Kids International Open. Coaching the U.S. squad at the Kiev Grand Prix will be USA Wrestling Freestyle Resident Coach Sergei Beloglazov (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Tom Brands (Iowa City, Iowa). Brands won an Olympic gold medal in 1996. Brands will serve as a 2004 U.S. Olympic Team coach. He currently serves as the head assistant coach at the Univ. of Iowa. Beloglazov won gold medals at the 1980 and 1988 Olympic Games and also captured six World titles. Last year at the Kiev Grand Prix, Heskett won a bronze medal at 74 kg/163 lbs. Leading the U.S. squad at the Ivan Yarygin Memorial International will be Sanderson and 2003 World silver medalist Kerry McCoy (Bethlehem, Pa./New York AC) at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. McCoy placed fifth in the 2000 Olympic Games and has competed in four World Championships. 2003 U.S. World Team member Stephen Abas (Fresno, Calif./Sunkist Kids) will join Sanderson and McCoy, competing at 55 kg/121 lbs. Abas placed fifth at the 2003 World Championships and won a gold medal at the 2003 Pan American Games. Rounding out the U.S. roster are 2003 U.S. National Team members Jason Kutz (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army) and Mike Zadick (Solon, Iowa/Hawkeye WC) at 60 kg/132 lbs., Bill Zadick (Iowa City, Iowa/Hawkeye WC) at 66 kg/145.5 lbs., Kirk White (Tacoma, Wash./Dave Schultz WC) at 74 kg/163 lbs., Dean Morrison (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 96 kg/264.5 lbs. and Brian Keck (Cleveland, Ohio/New York AC) at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. Kutz won a gold medal at the 2003 CISM Military World Championships and has placed third at the U.S. World Team Trials the past two years. He is a member of the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program. White placed third in the 2003 U.S. World Team Trials. He has won medals at numerous international events, including a silver medal at the 2003 Pan American Championships. Keck has starred in both freestyle and Greco-Roman competition. He placed third at the 2002 and 2003 U.S. Nationals and won a gold medal at the 2003 Pan American Championships. Keck is currently the head assistant coach at Cleveland State Univ. The U.S. team will be coached by Royce Alger (Iowa City, Iowa) and Beloglazov. Alger won a silver medal at the 1990 World Championships. He currently serves as the strength and conditioning coach at the Univ. of Iowa. Moore, Guerrero, Kelly and Cormier will represent the United States at the Acropolis Tournament in Athens, Greece, March 6-7. The U.S. coaches for this tournament will be USA Wrestling National Freestyle Coach Kevin Jackson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Steve Knight (Parker, Colo.). Jackson won a gold medal at the 1992 Olympic Games and World titles in 1991 and 1995. He is one of five U.S. wrestlers to claim three World-level titles. Knight has served as a coach for numerous U.S. Winter Tour events and is currently the coach of Team Excel.
