What is your brief outlook for the sport of wrestling?  I get excited about this question, because I see great things ahead for wrestling.  The popularity of our sport amongst America's youth will continue to ensure the success of our elite teams on the international level.  High school wrestling state championships are consistently among the top high school level sporting competitions in interest and attendance.  The NCAA Division I National Championships is a true testament of the popularity of the sport of wrestling in this country.  USA Wrestling's Capital Campaign and the Amateur Wrestling Alliance prove that, when our sport is focused, we can accomplish great things.    What do you see in the future as the "turning point" for more interest in the sport?  There are three things that are going to happen this year that will serve as "turning points."  The 2000 World Championships in New York City will afford our sport the unique opportunity to expose the virtues and excitement of wrestling to a world-wide audience.  Secondly, wrestling has positioned itself to utilize the benefits and popularity of the world-wide web, through TheMat.Com and through Cybercasting events.  More fans than ever before will be able to witness wrestling competitions all over the US and the world.  And lastly, the Amateur Wrestling Alliance will continue to evolve and focus on uniting the sport to move forward to form organizational efficiencies within the different wrestling organizations this will allow us to move forward and focus on making the sport better.    How big of an opportunity do you see the worlds being in NYC for the sport to grow?  The World Championships are a big opportunity, but we will not capitalize on the opportunity if we don't promote the event and succeed with securing large electric crowds.  The event also must be used to generate interest in the sport of wrestling within the corporate community.  Securing relationships in the corporate community will help ensure wrestling's place in the future of our country.    Are you excited at how the public has responded to Rulon's victory?  Where do you hope that brings (takes) the sport?  Of course it's encouraging that the media has taken a liking to Rulon and his success in Sydney.  It has provided wrestling with a unique avenue to portray the human-interest value of our sport.  It has also opened the door to other opportunities, like Brandon Slay's gold medal presentation ceremony on the Today Show, after Rulon's appearance and interview there.
