1996 Olympic silver medalist and 2001 World silver medalist Brandon Paulson (Anoka, Minn./Minnesota Storm) will compete in a Greco-Roman exhibition match at halftime of the Minnesota vs. Iowa State dual on Dec. 12 at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minn. Paulson's opponent will be Hakan Nyblom of Denmark, who placed eighth at the 2003 World Championships in Creteil, France. The two will compete at 55 kg/121 lbs. "It is big that we have a top foreign athlete coming in," stated Minnesota assistant coach Joe Russell. "I believe it will be a great draw." Nyblom has competed in three World Championships on the Senior level and two European Championships. He placed sixth in the 2002 European Championships. The 23 year-old Nyblom was a star at the Junior level as well, competing in three Junior World Championships, placing as high as fourth in 2001. He is a five-time Danish national champion. Paulson is a three-time U.S. Nationals champion and has won several medals in international competitions. He placed second at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He has won the last three U.S. World Team Trials events at his weight class. Paulson also placed eighth at the 2002 World Championships held in Moscow, Russia. "I am excited to wrestle Hakan Nyblom. He is a young, tough wrestler who has already qualified for the 2004 Olympics," Paulson stated. "I think it will be good exposure for Greco-Roman wrestling, and one last chance for my friends to see me wrestle in my home state of Minnesota." As a collegiate wrestler at the Univ. of Minnesota, Paulson placed seventh in the 1998 NCAA Tournament.
