U.S. Freestyle World Team member Daniel Cormier (Stillwater, Okla./Gator WC) was featured in a profile article in Sports Illustrated's October 27, 2003 issue. Featured on the cover of the issue was NBA basketball player Lebron James. The one-page article on Cormier was included in the Scorecard Extra section in the front half of the magazine. The article, written by SI Olympics writer Brian Cazenueve, focused on Cormier's difficult challenge of returning to the mats after his baby daughter was killed in an automobile accident. The story also features coverage of his performance at the 2003 World Championships of Freestyle Wrestling, held in New York City in September. Cormier placed fifth at the 2003 World Championships and was a 2003 Pan American Games champion, competing at 211.5 pounds. Cormier was a NCAA runner-up at Oklahoma State, and trains there now in his quest for the 2004 Olympic team.
