MEMORANDUM September 30, 2003 TO: NCAA Divisions I, II and III Conference Commissioners, Directors of Athletics and Head Wrestling Coaches of Member Institutions Sponsoring Wrestling. FROM: Curt Blake, chair, NCAA Wrestling Committee. SUBJECT: Certified Officials. The purpose of this memorandum is to provide information about the new requirement that all NCAA collegiate wrestling officials be registered this season. According to page WR-78 of the 2004 NCAA Wrestling Rules and Interpretations, a referee who wishes to officiate collegiate meets, tournaments or NCAA championships competition must be NCAA certified prior to the start of each season. The referee is required to view the NCAA Wrestling Rules Videotape presentation and complete a registration card (or register online). Please take a few moments to make sure officials assigned to your matches during the 2003-04 academic year are registered with the NCAA. If you use an assignor or conference to select officials for matches, please make sure officials used are included in the NCAA's registration list. The registration list may be found online at the following address: http://www1. ncaa.org/membership/champadmin/wrestling/index. The list will be updated periodically and finalized by October 24. The last day for an official to view the clinic online is October 21. To view the clinic online, please go to www.ncaasports.com and click on "wrestling" on the left-hand side of the page. If an official that is not certified officiates an NCAA meet or tournament, the host institution will be held responsible. Consequences of using a non-registered official may include penalties decided by the NCAA Wrestling Committee. If you have any questions, please do contact me or Ty Halpin at the NCAA National Office. cc: NCAA Wrestling Committee Selected NCAA Staff Members
