In 2001 Akin captured his first U.S. National Title in Las Vegas, just the previous year he finished second at the 2002 Olympic Trials. He still continues to train out of Lincoln, Nebraska to meet his goal of making the 2004 Olympic team. And, now your wrestlers can experience the desire and dedication that has made Eric Akin one of the top wrestlers nationally at 55 kgs. Akin has a significant resume as a coach and has helped many nationally prominent wrestlers excel in the sport. Some of those include Jason Powell(UNL), Zach Roberson(ISU), Joe Johnston(Iowa), Shawn Bunch(Edinboro), Justin Dyer (OU). According to Akin, "This free clinic series is going to be a great prelude to the instructional and training programs I will be offering to the Iowa and Nebraska wrestling communities." The clinics that Akin will offer to wrestlers of Nebraska and Iowa require only that wrestlers purchase their membership card with USA Wrestling for the 2003-2004 season. Each wrestler can then attend one, two or all three of the clinic sessions. Akin has shown tremendous leadership in providing this free service to the wrestlers of the Midwest and he invites any interested wrestlers and coaches to join him on September 21st, 24th, and 27th. "I'm really excited about the opportunity to share what I have to offer with this area that is very rich in wrestling talent. I'd like to help as many kids as I can get the same things that wrestling got me: a college scholarship, a family, a education, extensive travels, a work ethic, and great friends", stated Akin.
