Purdue wrestling standout, David Pierce, has joined the Slippery Rock wrestling program as a graduate assistant. A native of Indiana, he was a two-time state placewinner in high school. As a Boilermaker, Pierce was a three-time Big Ten placewinner and three-time NCAA qualifier at heavyweight. He also has significant experience in freestyle competing in national competitions since high school. Pierce was an All American in Cadet, Junior, Espoir and University age groups. After graduation, he pursued a career in finance as an advisor for American Express. Since then he has started his own financial advising business in Chicago. He joins The Rock as he is exploring his opportunities to return to the sport of wrestling. "David brings a lot of great wrestling experience to our program.", says head coach Jim Harshaw. "Having competed in the Big Ten he understands big time wrestling and how to win at this level. His experience at the NCAA tournament will help our wrestlers when they get there. Furthermore, his freestyle experience is a big asset as we move towards expanding resources for our wrestlers in the international styles. On top of all of that, he is intelligent, industrious, and a good communicator as demonstrated in his entrepreneurship. He will be an asset to our program." "I am pleased to be joining a program with such history as Slippery Rock.", says Pierce. " I look forward to the opportunity of working with Coach Harshaw and helping the wrestlers achieve their goals."
