Gallick, Reynolds eliminated at Junior World Freestyle Championships in Turkey

Two U.S. wrestlers dropped quarterfinal matches at the Junior World Freestyle Wrestling Championships in Istanbul, Turkey, Friday, August 29. The Junior World Championships feature the world's best wrestlers who are 17-20 years old. Don Reynolds (New Lenox, Ill./Overtime WC) was defeated by Sergey Vitkovsky of Russia, 6-0 in the quarterfinals at 74 kg/163 lbs. Reynolds won his pool competition on Thursday. By making the quarterfinals, Reynolds will place in the top eight of his divisions. His final placement has not yet been posted. Nate Gallick (Tucson, Ariz./Cyclone WC) was beaten in the qualifying matches (round of 16) at 60 kg/132 lbs., losing to Koba Kakaladze of Georgia, 4-0. Earlier in the day, Gallick captured his pool by defeating Bevilacqua Cianmarco of Italy in a 10-0 technical fall. Paul Donahoe (Davison, Mich.) defeated Evgeni Nikanorov of Israel, 9-8, at 50 kg/110 lbs. and won his pool competition. He will advance into the championship bracket at his weight class. Kurt Backes (Neshanic Station, N.J./Cyclone WC) opened his competition at 84 kg/185 lbs. with two wins. He scored a victory over Imants Lagodskis (Latvia). Leading 6-1 when the bout was stopped. He also added an 11-1 technical fall over Jonathan Rioux of Canada. Losing his first match of the day was Mike Silengo (Colorado Springs, Colo./Dave Schultz WC), who fell to Anil Kumar of India, 7-3 at 55 kg/121 lbs. No other results have been posted at this time.
