CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Former Oklahoma State graduate assistant and collegiate All-America Glen Lanham joins the University of North Carolina wrestling staff as head assistant coach, first-year Tar Heel head coach C.D. Mock announced Wednesday. According to Mock, Lanham will work with Carolina's upper weight groups. "Glen's addition to our staff rounds out what I had originally envisioned for our program," said Mock. "With Cary Kolat, Adem Kaya and now Glen Lanham, I feel we have the tools to become a very competitive national program. "Glen brings the maturity, experience and character to the program, which I feel is crucial in maintaining what we've built here at Carolina. I'm very excited about this staff and this young team." A high school wrestling coach since 1991, Lanham is currently a teacher and assistant wrestling coach at Midwest City High School in Oklahoma where he has worked since 1997. While at Midwest, he has coached numerous state champions that have gone on to compete on the collegiate level at schools like Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Duke. Before teaching, he worked as a graduate assistant coach at Oklahoma State from 1988-91, helping the Cowboys to a pair of national championships. As a competitor, Lanham earned All-America honors at both Oklahoma State and Tennessee. He also competed internationally for Sunkist Kids and was a freestyle All-America. Lanham graduated from Tennessee in August 1988 with a bachelor of arts degree in human service with an emphasis in juvenile counseling. A native of New York, Lanham joins Kaya, who is in his third season in Chapel Hill, and Kolat, who was hired in June, as Mock's assistant coaches.
