Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic - The gold and bronze-medal matches for Greco-Roman wrestling at the Pan American Games have been moved to Sunday, August 3 at 5:00 p.m. Competition was originally slated for Monday, August 4 at 5:00 p.m. Competition was re-scheduled due to an unwarranted use of facilities on Monday, August 4. There are 51 competitors in Greco-Roman competition. The low number is due in large part to a decision by FILA, the international governing body for the sport of amateur wrestling, to use the Pan American Championships in March as a qualifying event for the Pan American Games, according to Mario Saletnig, spokesman for FILA. "There seems to be no use in making these great competitors only wrestle one match on Sunday and then one on Monday, when we can easily finish the tournament in one more day without causing extra harm to the competitors," Saletnig added. The top eight countries at each weight class at the Pan American Championships qualified for the Pan American Games, with an exemption being given to the host country, the Dominican Republic. No decision has been made concerning men's and women's freestyle wrestling. The women's competition is scheduled for August 5-6 and the men's competition is scheduled for August 6-8.
