Pennyslvania captured the team titles in both freestyle and Greco-Roman at the National Cadet Duals held at the Univ. of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo., July 1-5. On Saturday, Pennsylvania Power Train defeated New Jersey, 38-33, in the championship finals in freestyle. Pennsylvania won 10 of the 17 matches, including the final two bouts of the dual meet with wins from Nate Sipes (215) and James Martin (275). New Jersey kept it close with three pins, two technical falls and two decisions. On Wednesday, Pennsylvania Pain Train defeated Michigan, 38-27 in the championship finals in Greco-Roman. Pennyslvania won the first five matches of the dual meet, and claimed 11 individual wins in the championship match. Michigan won three of the final four bouts by pin, but Michigan was too far behind in the team standings to make up the difference. Only three other states were able to take placements in the top 10 in both styles. Michigan placed second in Greco-Roman and ninth in freestyle. The Minnesota Storm placed third in the Greco-Roman division and fourth in freestyle. The New York For-5 team was fourth in Greco-Roman and seventh in freestyle. The freestyle competition saw the emergence of Missouri as a major Cadet state power, as it placed third with a 36-30 win over the Minnesota Storm. Missouri's only loss came in the Red Pool finals to eventual champion Pennsylvania Power Train, by a tight 35-33 margin. In Greco-Roman, the bronze medal went to traditional Greco-Roman power Minnesota Storm, which scored a dominant 49-18 victory over New York For-5. Minnesota's loss came in the Blue Pool to eventual champion Pennsylvania Pain Train, 37-31. The quality of the competition was high and the intensity of the matches impressive, as state-level teams competed during the five days of action. Cadets are wrestlers 15-16 years old.
