Greco-Roman 55 kg/121 lbs - Brandon Paulson "It's always fun to win this. Making the World Team is always the goal in the United States so I'm very excited right now." On wrestling Lindsey Durlacher "I didn't wrestle my best. It's not very fun to wrestle him. I don't respect him. I don't like his style of wrestling." 60 kg/132 lbs. Jim Gruenwald "It was a little different road because I won Nationals and got to sit out the first rounds. I praise God for that and a good training partner in Kevin Bracken. It wasn't like I just sat around because I didn't have to wrestle the first rounds. Training with Bracken really opened my lungs up. He's a weight class higher and a whole lot stronger." 66 kg/145.5 lbs. - Kevin Bracken On an injury he was battling "I've had a lot of training on the side rather than the regular formats. That has helped my preparation for this." On support in the stands "My family and friends are here. I'm grateful for that support. I think it really reflects well on me and my family. I've learned when you want something in life, make it a good situation and give it your all." 74 kg/ 163 lbs. - T.C. Dantzler On recovering second match "That second match was a total blur. I had to totally recover and act like it didn't happen." On the third-round match "It was a hard-fought match and I've had a lot of adversity lately. I had a pinched nerve in my arm and had to have an epidural. I don't have a job right now, so I knew I had to win the tournament for my family. I had a lot going through my mind and it all came together." 84 kg/185 lbs. - Brad Vering On winning on injury default " I really don't know what happened. I brought my shoulder down on him. Maybe it popped some cartilage." On winning "It's a little bit of relief now that I've made it. Hopefully I'll be set to peak in September." On his mindset for the worlds "I was a rookie last time. I wasn't expected to be there. It's time to do it. I spent the time to win the team trials and will spend the time to win the world championships. I'll give it everything I have." 96 kg/211.5 lbs. - Garrett Lowney On beating Justin Ruiz "You have to keep yourself moving. Kicking my feet and movement was the key." On his need for icing his neck after the match "I've had a stretch of injuries. A lot of them had to do with college wrestling. This is a chronic problem with my neck. I knocked myself out out there. I don't know what happened. Things got blurry on me a couple of times." 120 kg/264 lbs. - Rulon Gardner "I haven't really thought about [the World Championships]. My feet are still an issue. I know this wasn't the perfect match, but I praise the Lord for giving me this ability." On facing Dremiel Byers "He's so strong. He used an arm throw on me that I hadn't seen before. I decided it was okay to be aggressive, but you have to learn to control yourself. In the first match he got a little tired. By the end of the second, I knew he was hurting. To me it's an absolute miracle that I got another chance and I got him in overtime again." On making the world team "It's a dream come true to make it to [the World Championships]. Hopefully this will catapult me into next year." Women's Freestyle 48 kg/105.5 lbs - Patricia Miranda On her motivation "Fear is the reason I began wrestling. I don't know if it was fear of performance or adrenaline, but to this day, I'm always facing that same fear." 51 kg/112.25 lbs. - Jenny Wong On opponent Malinda Ripley "You can't do it halfway. Malinda's a tough competitor. She pointed out positional errors I've made and I'll keep working on those." On making the World Championships "It's my first World Championships and it's really awesome that it's here (United States)." 59 kg/130 lbs. - Erin Tomeo On defeating two opponents on default "I expected to wrestle through this tournament so to sit out two days threw me off my game. I was prepared to take this thing on. Everyone says I got a break but I don't see it that way. I'll take it." 63 kg/138.75 lbs. - Sara McMann On the difference between the second and third matches "I was more surprised by the second match. I was thinking more during that one and she was attacking me and it wasn't going very well. In the third match, I hit a flow and kept going with it." On retirement "I still get butterflies before matches like this. It's kind of like that thrill you get before going on a roller coaster. I think when that stops happening, I'll know it's time to retire." 67 kg/147.5 lbs. - Katie Downing On opponent Kaci Lyle "We've probably wrestled 15-20 times since 1998. We've trained together so we really know each other's stuff." 72 kg/158.5 lbs. - Toccara Montgomery On opponent Samantha Lang "She's one of the toughest opponents I've had. She's always pushing and always on me which will only make the both of us better." On scoring five points in 20 seconds "It's a lot easier wrestling when you're ahead. When behind, I had to give it all I had and not let up." Men's Freestyle 55 kg / 121 lbs. - Stephen Abas On making the World Championship Team "We weren't able to go last year. That was the worst thing that could hurt the U.S. team. So this year we're going hungry." On strategy "I knew I had to defend well and score my points. He (Mike Mena) likes to keep the points close so I got my three." 60 kg/132 lbs. - Eric Guerrero "Wrestling is about yourself. I focus on myself, not the opposition. It's what I do. I try to stay with my philosophy." "My real goals are still to come. This is great, but it's only a stepping stone. The World Championships and the Olympics are the real goals." 66 kg / 145.5 lbs. - Jamill Kelly "If you would have ever told me that I would have score seven points on (Chris Bono), I would have said in five or six matches maybe." On making the World Championship Team "Going into it I knew the draw. I wrestled my way through so I thought I could compete for this." 74 kg/163 lbs. - Joe Williams On making the team "Anytime you make the world team it feels good. But we have bigger goals than that. I want a world championship now." On possible Russian opponents "Anyone in my weight class, I consider an enemy." 84 kg/185 lbs. - Cael Sanderson On his strategy "I'm just trying to get a little sharper on my feet. I know I have to wrestle my way out of positions. I've focused a lot." On the World Championships in New York City "I don't like traveling much so it's good that it's in the United States. As for my preparation, it's the same as anywhere. I'll be trying to stay focused. Trying to get better to move on to the next level." 96 kg/211.5 lbs. - Dean Morrison On opponent Tim Hartung "I felt from just watching his style I could score in certain situations. I built on that confidence." "In our last round I got a kink in my back and hobbled back into the hotel room. (It was so bad), I was kind of hoping he wouldn't show up for this round. But God pulled me through." 120 kg/264 lbs. - Kerry McCoy On preparation for the tournament "I was really up for this weekend. It's a change to have to wrestle into the World Championships." On facing the Russians "Whoever I'm going to wrestle is going to be tough. I'll focus on them before worrying about who the Russians bring."
