NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Apprentice School head wrestling coach Mike Clayton announced today the addition of two assistant coaches to his staff for the 2003-04 season. Sean Gray earned two NCAA All-America honors while wrestling for Virginia Tech. He was also a three-time Prep National Champion for Blair Academy of New Jersey. Gray left Virginia Tech with school records in career wins (139), career pins (45), pins in a season (15) and career winning percentage (.875). He spent the last year student-teaching and coaching at Blacksburg High School in Virginia. Jeff Rusak was a four-time NCAA Qualifier for Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. He placed 3rd at the Midlands Championships in 2001 and was a Pennsylvania state runner-up for Muhlenberg High School in 1997. As a senior at ODU he finished with a 35-2 record and was the fifth seed at the NCAA Championships. "The intensity and talent of these two men is a tremendous boost to our program," said Clayton. "Their skills on the mat are very solid and both understand our program and are committed to our team goals. Sean and Jeff will also play a big part contributing to our recruiting efforts nation wide." Gray will focus on development of the freestyle/greco club through the Peninsula Wrestling Association (PWA). PWA founded and hosts the prestigious Virginia Duals and is instrumental in developing wrestling in Hampton Roads. He will be responsible for the Apprentice School middle-weights. Rusak will focus on off-season strength and conditioning as well as weights from 174 to heavyweight.
