Cejudo, Gallick repeat as champions at the 2003 FILA Cadet Greco-Roman National Championships

April 24, 2003 - Arizona stars Henry Cejudo and Nick Gallick both repeated as champions of the 2003 FILA Cadet Greco-Roman National Championships in Palatine, Ill. Cejudo recorded his fifth victory by technical superiority in the tournament with a 10-0 win over Jimmy Kennedy of Illinois at 46 kg. Gallick was just as impressive at 50 kg, as he recorded four wins by technical superiority along with a pin. In the finals, the young star dominated Alex Warren of Indiana, 12-0. Jason Robbins of Florida was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler after defeating Cadet All-American Brandon Shelton of Oklahoma in the 58 kg final, 13-3. Robbins outscored his opponents 51-3 in four technical superiority wins while also recording one win by fall. 2002 Cadet national champions Jeff Schell of Pennsylvania, Dustin Schlatter of Ohio and Rocky Cozart of Florida also steamrolled through their respective weight classes in coming away with gold medals. Schell won all four of his matches by technical superiority, including his 10-0 win over John Reader of Michigan in the 54 kg finals. Schlatter won four matches by technical superiority and was unscored upon throughout the tournament at 63 kg. He defeated Wesley English of Indiana 11-0 for the gold medal. Cozart had to survive some close matches to earn his gold medal at 76 kg. In pool competition, Cozart narrowly escaped with a 14-11 win over Louis Caputo of Missouri. He then held on for a 7-3 win over Michael Moore of Missouri. Also winning FILA Cadet titles were Scott O'Donnell of Missouri at 42 kg, Alton Lucas of New York at 69 kg, Chris Hogue of Pennsylvania at 86 kg and Arkadiry Levitin of New York at 100 kg. Tim McGoldrick won the Gorrarian Award for the most falls in the least amount of time. McGoldrick, who placed fourth at 63 kg, pinned three opponents in one minute and 51 seconds. Winners of the 2003 FILA Cadet Greco-Roman National Championships are eligible for a partially subsidized international tour. The tournament had 149 entrants, up from 133 in 2002.
