Missouri Valley College hires Carl Murphree as its new women’s wrestling coach

 Missouri Valley College athletics director Tom Fifer has named Carl Murphree of Napa, Calif. as the new women's wrestling coach.    Murphree will take over the women's coaching duties from Mike Machholz, who has served in a dual role as both men's and women's head coach. Machholz will remain as the men's head coach. The Viking men's team was the NAIA team champions in 2003.    Murphree was the head wrestling coach at Vintage High School and the director of the Napa Valley Wrestling Club.    He has coached 16 Wrestling USA magazine All-American female wrestlers in the past five years. The Vintage High School girls were California State Champions in 2001 and 2002.    Murphree also founded the Asics Napa Valley Girls Classic, which was considered the first National High School Federation tournament in the United States. He has designed the California Girls wrestling web site, as well.    Murphree has been married to his wife, Debora for 20 years and they have two children, daughter Emilee and son, Daniel. Emilee competes for the Missouri Valley College women's wrestling team, and is a nationally ranked competitor.    Missouri Valley College has one of the nation's most successful college women's wrestling teams, and has developed numerous USA Wrestling All-Americans and national team members. Recently, Missouri Valley College won the team title at the USGWA Can-Am Freestyle Nationals in Michigan and placed second in the USA Wrestling University National Championships.
