USA Wrestling set an event record for its Kids/Cadet Folkstyle National Championships, which are being held this weekend at the ExpoCenter in Topeka, Kan. There is a total of 1,646 entries this year, almost 600 more wrestlers than last season. A total of 35 states are represented with athletes in the competition. For the first time, Cadet athletes (ages 15-16) were included in this folkstyle national tournament. The entry numbers for each age level follows: Midget (ages 9-10) - 256 Novice (ages 11-12) - 378 Schoolboy (ages 13-14) - 559 Cadet (ages 15-16) - 453 "USA Wrestling is excited that the Kids and Cadet National Freestyle Championships set an event record this year," said Mark Scott, Director of State Services. "This is one of our premier youth events. USA Wrestling is striving to develop the sport of wrestling at all levels and in all styles. This is a tribute to our grassroots leaders and their commitment to the sport. We also salute Kansas USA Wrestling for its tremendous leadership in organizing this record championships." The competition completes on Sunday, with champions and all-Americans determined at each weight class. This weekend, the winners of the new USA Wrestling Ultimate Challenge Series in Div.
