USA Wrestling is pleased to announce that its 2003 Women's Future Olympian Freestyle Camp will be held in Colorado Springs, Colo., July 5-12. The camp is open to girls of all ages, from youth through high school. This camp is a must for any girl serious about taking their wrestling performance to the next level. Conducting the camp will be USA Wrestling National Women's Coach Terry Steiner, who coaches America's elite women wrestlers. In the first year that Steiner has worked with the nation's top women athletes, the U.S. performance at international events has improved. Steiner also serves as the coach of the U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC) resident athletes. He was a NCAA champion and three-time All-American for the Univ. of Iowa, competing for the legendary Dan Gable. Steiner was named Outstanding Wrestler at the NCAA Championships in 1993. He was one of the nation's top freestyle wrestlers, competing for the United States in major events across the world. He also has college coaching experience at Iowa, Oregon State and the Univ. of Wisconsin. Also serving as instructors at this camp will be a number of America's top women wrestlers, including many of the USOTC resident athletes. Among those who will teach are three-time U.S. World Team member Sara McMann and 2002 U.S. Nationals champion Jenny Wong, both ranked No. 1 in the nation at their weight classes. Campers will have a chance to learn technique and strategy from these outstanding competitors, but will also be able to get to know fantastic role models to help guide their career. The camp will focus on covering basic positioning, techniques on the feet and mat wrestling. These skills will give the athletes the edge over their competitors, both in scholastic folkstyle and international freestyle. Women's wrestling is the newest sport in the Summer Olympic Games, making its debut at the 2004 Athens Olympics. USA Wrestling is working hard to help young women athletes gain the skills today that could lead them to success on the state, national and international levels. The cost of the Women's Future Olympian Freestyle Camp is $350, which includes all room and board charges and local transportation. All participants must have a current USA Wrestling membership card. Campers are asked to submit $100 to hold their spot, with the remaining balance due by July 1, 2003. There is also space for the first 20 coaches who wish to attend the camp, at a rate of $200 for the week. Coaches are also required to have a USA Wrestling card and submit a $100 deposit.
