Missouri Valley College wins team title at UM-Morris Women's Open, Dec. 2

Led by two individual champions and 12 medalists, Missouri Valley College won the team title at the UM-Morris Women's Open in Morris, Minn., Dec. 2. Missouri Valley College finished with 115 team points, more than double the second place team. Gold medalists for Missouri Valley were Leigh Jaynes (Wahiawa, Hawaii/Missouri Valley) at 123.25 pounds and Mollie Keith (Aurelia, Iowa/Missouri Valley) at 136.5 pounds. Jaynes was named Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament, after defeating teammate Aimee McNab (Wis./Missouri Valley) in the finals, 13-9. Keith claimed her gold medal by defeating teammate Melissa Fogarty (Wayne, Mich./MissouriValley), 8-3 in the finals. The host Univ. of Minnesota-Morris placed second, led by individual champions Katie Downing (Pendleton, Ind./UM-Morris) at 149.75 pounds and Alison Patrick (Boise, Idaho/UM-Morris) at 165.25 pounds. Downing pinned Kaci Lyle (Eureka, Calif./Missouri Valley), in the finals in 4:02. Patrick pinned Alicia Mena (St. Paul, Minn./Westside/Westend), in 2:15 to claim her title. The University of Calgary placed third with 20 points, and boasted a pair of individual champions: Julie Harris at 101.25 pounds and Erica Sharp at 112.25 pounds.
