State College, Pa., March 17, 2003 - Penn State Head Wrestling Coach Troy Sunderland announced Monday that freshman 149-pounder Nate Galloway (State College, Pa.) will not compete in the upcoming NCAA Championships in Kansas City, Mo., due to an injury. Galloway, who qualified for the NCAA Championships with a seventh place finish at the Big Ten Tournament, was declared unable to compete by team doctors on Monday afternoon. He is suffering from a neck injury that was aggravated at the Big Ten Championships, March 9, and has caused him to lose strength and occasional feeling in his arms. A long-term prognosis for his recovery was not immediately available.     Sophomore Adam Smith, who finished eighth at 125 pounds at the Big Ten Tournament, will replace Galloway in the Penn State lineup. Smith was voted by the Big Ten coaches as the at-large, alternate selection following the conference championship, thus placing him next in line to compete at the NCAA Championships if any Big Ten qualified wrestlers were unable to compete. It will be the first NCAA appearance for Smith who owns a 22-21 record on the season. Competition at the NCAA Championships runs March 20-22.
