EDINBORO, PA - With four of the top ten teams in the country competing in the 19th Annual Cliff Keen Invitational in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 1 and 2, saying that the competition will be tough is definitely an understatement.    In addition, a total of 11 top-20 teams and over 70 nationally-ranked wrestlers will make the trip to Las Vegas for the tournament, with four of the country's top-ranked grapplers in attendance.     Head coach Tim Flynn sends his starting lineup that features eight ranked wrestlersof his own, led by 2000 NCAA runner-up and second-ranked Josh Koscheck (Waynesburg, PA/Waynesburg).     Koscheck, ranked first in two polls and second in two others, will have the chance to put any doubts of who the number one wrestler at 174 pounds is witha possible meeting with Michigan's Otto Olson.  Olson is the top-ranked grapplerby InterMat and Amateur Wrestling News after finishing as the NCAA runner-up in 1999, then suffering a season-ending knee injury a year ago.  Koscheck owns the top spot by W.I.N. Magazine and TheWrestleReport.com.  Third-ranked Eric Hall ofVirginia Tech is also scheduled to compete.  Koscheck missed a chance to compete against Hall last season in a dual meet when Hall was forced to forfeit the matchdue to injury.  Koscheck is 9-0 this season with championships at the Oklahoma Classic and Slippery Rock Open.     Redshirt sophomore Dave Shunamon (Tewksbury, MA/Tewksbury) and senior Ryan Shapert (Glenshaw, PA/Shaler) could benefit the greatest from the stiff competition they will face in the tournament, with the top-ranked wrestler in the each weight class in attendance.  In Shunamon's 197-lbs. class, returning national champion Brad Vering of Nebraska leads the list of top wrestlers.  Vering is 3-0 this season, after last year's 38-3 performance.  All-Americans Nick Preston of Ohio State, ranked third,and Pat Quirk of Illinois, ranked fourth, also highlight the weight class.  Shunamon is a perfect 7-0 this season with titles at both the Oklahoma Classic and Slippery Rock Open.  He already owns victories over then 10th-ranked Waymon May of Oklahoma, 5-2, and 14th-ranked Todd Hockenbroch of Bloomsburg, 5-1.  He was named the PSAC's Wrestler of the Month for November for his performances at the Oklahoma Classic and Slippery Rock Open.    Shapert was rated fifth at 149 pounds a year ago when a neck injury forced him to the sideline for the remainder of the season.  At 5-0 after an individual title at the Slippery Rock Open, Shapert has climbed to 11th in the latest InterMat rankings. NCAA runner-up and top-ranked Adam Tirapelle of Illinois headlines the weight class, followed by All-American Dave Esposito of Lehigh, ranked second after a third-place finish at Nationals in 2000.  Shapert defeated Tirapelle in the 1998 Las Vegas Invitational.        Returning All-American Shaun Shapert (Glenshaw, PA/Shaler) could face a familiar foe at the tournament in Nebraska's Bryan Snyder.  Shapert, the seventh-place finisher at Nationals in 2000, upset third-seeded Snyder in the opening round by a 5-4 score.  The two again met in the wrestlebacks, with Snyder capturing a 7-2 victory.  Shapert is 6-2 this season, both losses coming against Pitt-Johnstown's Shad Benton in the finals of the Oklahoma Classic and Slippery Rock Open.  Snyder is ranked second in the weight class after finishing in fifth-place at Nationals last season.  Following Snyder is Boise State's Kirk White in the third spot.  White drops from 165 pounds this season after earning All-American status with a fifth-place finish at Nationals a year ago.    Following the Cliff Keen Invitational, the Fighting Scots return to McComb Fieldhouse for their first dual match of the season, hosting EWL foe Cleveland Stateon December 7 at 7:30.     Here's a look at the Edinboro's Cliff Keen Invitational contingent:     125 Pounds ... Redshirt junior Charlie Soto (El Paso, TX/J.M.Hanks) continues his season in the starting lineup at the event.  Soto is 2-2 after competing at the Oklahoma Classic.  A spot starter in 1998-99 with a 10-13 record, he posted a10-7 record while redshirting last season at 133 pounds.  Top-ranked Stephen Abas of Fresno State is the favorite, returning from a redshirt season after capturing the NCAA Championship in 1999.  Abas entered this season with a 75-4 career record, with only one loss in 1999.  Also competing are North Carolina's Chuck Conner, ranked fifth, followed by Pitt's Shawn Amistade in the seventh spot and Nathan Navarro of Oregon State in the eighth position.     133 Pounds ... Following a redshirt season in 1999-00, sophomore Justin Wilcox (Greentownship, OH/Oak Hills) regains the starting spot from Chad Caros (Franklinville, NY/Suffern), who jumps a weight class to 141 pounds this season.  Wilcox tallied a 15-1 record as a redshirt a year ago, following a 20-15 record as a freshman in '98-99.  The EWL champion in 1999, he is ranked 15th with a 6-2 record.  Nebraska's Todd Beckerman and Rob Loper of Pittsburgh lead the list of competing wrestlers. Beckerman is ranked second after a fifth-place finish at Nationals last season, while Loper is third after capturing the fourth-place trophy.          141 Pounds ...Redshirt junior Chad Caros (Franklinville, NY/Suffern) returns to the starting lineup, taking over for 18th-ranked Cory Ace (Franklin, PA/Franklin). Caros finished as the runner-up at the Slippery Rock Open in his first action this season, posting a 3-1 record.  He captured the PSAC championship at 133 pounds a year ago, qualifying for Nationals as the runner-up at the EWL Tournament.  EWL champion Sean Gray of Virginia Tech is ranked third this season with 1999 All-Americanand PAC-10 champion Eric Larkin in fourth place.     149 Pounds ...Senior Ryan Shapert (Glenshaw, PA/Shaler), ranked 18th nationally, captured the Slippery Rock Open championship, posting two major decisions and a fall among his five victories.  He will get his first true tests of the season with the top two ranked wrestlers in the nation competing in the event.  NCAA runner-up Adam Tirapelle of Illinois leads the class, with All-American Dave Esposito of Lehigh following in the second spot.  Esposito finished in third place at Nationals last season. Shapert is a two-time NCAA qualifier with a 69-36 career mark.     157 Pounds ...Edinboro returning All-American Shaun Shapert (Glenshaw, PA/Shaler), ranked seventh nationally, has a 6-2 record with his only two losses coming to Shad Benton of Pitt-Johnstown in the final match of both the Oklahoma Classic and the Slippery Rock Open.  He finished with a 23-9 mark a year ago, and in third place at the EWL Championships.  Nebraska's Bryan Snyder and Boise State's Kirk White, the second and third ranked wrestlers in the weight class, will be in competition at the Invitational.  Both All-Americans, Snyder finished in fifth place a year ago, while White captured the fifth-place medal at 165 pounds a year ago.  White was the NCAA champion at 165 pounds in 1999.     165 Pounds ...Edinboro senior Yanni Diamond (Wellesley, MA/Wellesley) could getthe opportunity to avenge losses to four of the competitors in the Las Vegas Invitational. Unfortunately, those four losses came to four of the top-eleven wrestlers in the weight class.  Diamond has a 5-2 record to start the season, following last year's 28-16record.  All-American and third-ranked Steve Blackford of Arizona State defeated Diamond by a 7-1 score at the 2000 NCAA Championships en route to a third-place   finish.  EWL champion and All-American Chris Martin of Virginia Tech, ranked fourth, handed Diamond two of his losses in 1999-00, a 6-2 decision in a dual match and by a 9-1 score at the EWL Tournament.  Tenth-ranked Carl Fronhofer of Pittsburgh defeated Diamond in a narrow 2-1 decision in the Pitt dual meet, while 11th-ranked Joel Walker of Ohio State captured a 6-1 victory at the Midlands Invitational.    174 Pounds ...Two-time All-American Josh Koscheck (Waynesburg, PA/ Waynesburg), ranked second by InterMat and AWN, finished with a 38-4 record last season, losing in the finals of the NCAA Tournament to undefeated Byron Tucker of Oklahoma by a 3-0  score.
