NEW YORK - CSTV: College Sports Television (www.cstv.com), the nation's first national television network devoted exclusively to college sports, will televise the Minnesota-Iowa "Border Brawl" wrestling match Monday, March 17, as well as a special preview of the upcoming NCAA Wrestling Championships. The telecast, commencing at 8 p.m. ET., will pit the Hawkeyes, owner of 18 national championships since 1978, against the Gophers, the two-time defending national champions. Both squads currently carry 7-1 Big Ten records, while Iowa is 17-3 overall and Minnesota is 16-5 overall. The Hawkeyes are ranked #2 in the nation, while the Gophers follow at #3. As part of its March 17 special presentation, College Sports Television will offer a preview of the NCAA Wrestling Championships with profiles on key wrestlers competing later that week at the tournament, which takes place Thursday-Saturday, March 20-22, in Kansas City, Mo. College Sports Television is televising the Iowa-Minnesota match in conjunction with Iowa Public Television. The Iowa-Minnesota dual meet was contested February 14. "Wrestling boasts some of the most intense rivalries in college athletics, and this is a perfect example of the engaging programming College Sports Television will deliver upon our April 7 launch," said Chris Bevilacqua, co-founder and executive vice president, College Sports Television. "The action on the mat during the 'Border Brawl" is surpassed only by the electricity among the fans in attendance, and our telecast will capture that." "The University of Iowa is proud of not only its storied wrestling legacy, but its continued ability to produce national champion-caliber student-athletes" said Bob Bowlsby, athletic director, University of Iowa. "This telecast is an opportunity to bring new fans into the fold as two prominent programs face off in front of an enthusiastic, fervent crowd." College Sports Television is currently televising a series of special presentations leading to its official launch Monday, April 7, immediately following the final whistle of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball championship game. The network is unscrambling its signal for these telecasts, enabling cable and satellite operators to carry the telecast at no charge.
