Michigan starting 133-pounder Foley Dowd (Jr.-Howell, N.J.) has been declared inactive by team doctors today due to a herniated disc in his neck. The herniated disc has been pressing on Dowd's spinal cord, causing pain and discomfort when he wrestles. "Obviously this is a big blow for our team as we head into the postseason," Michigan head coach Joe McFarland said. "Foley is a vital member of our team and we all know that he had high expectations for himself heading into this postseason. We wish Foley the best and hope he can make a full recovery before next season." This marks the third consecutive season that a Michigan starter had to sit out the postseason with an injury. Last year, 141-pound Clark Forward missed the final two months of the season due to a virus. In 2000, All-American Otto Olson went down with an injury as well. Dowd had posted a career best 23-4 record this season before his injury, including three wins by fall, one by technical fall and four by major decision. He holds a 77-26 career record and was an NCAA qualifier in 2002. Shaun Newton (Jr.-Davison, Mich.) will step into the lineup for the Wolverines, who will compete next at the Big Ten Championships in Madison, Wis., March 8-9.
