Colorado Springs, Colo. - Jim Scherr, the U.S. Olympic Committee's Chief of Sport Performance, has been asked by Acting USOC President Bill Martin to oversee the day-to-day operation of the organization until an Interim Chief Executive Officer is selected by the Executive Committee.    The announcement comes one day after Lloyd Ward resigned as Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. Olympic Committee.    In addition to accepting the assignment, Scherr will continue to serve as Chief of Sport Performance. His title and compensation will not change.     Martin will begin working with the USOC's Executive Committee this week to identify an Interim Chief Executive Officer. Martin said there is no specific timetable involved with this decision.    "I would like to thank Jim for accepting this added responsibility at an important time for our organization," said Martin. "Jim will help provide the continuity necessary to make certain our mission of preparing America's athletes for the Pan American, Olympic and Paralympic Games continues to move forward with excellence."    A 1988 Olympian in freestyle wrestling, Scherr won two silver medals and a bronze in World Championship competition. He took silver in the 1987 and 1989 Worlds and a bronze in 1986. He was also a three-time U.S. National Champion.     From 1990-2000, Scherr served as Executive Director of USA Wrestling, the national governing body for the sport. He joined the USOC staff in November 2000 as Senior Managing Director for Sport Resources and was named Chief of Sport Performance in July 2002.
