Lincoln, Neb. The sixth-ranked Nebraska wrestling team won the final five bouts of the evening in a 31-7 victory over Wyoming Friday at the NU Coliseum in front of 930 fans. Highlighting the evening was NCAA champion Brad Vering who posted his 100th career win as a Husker. The dual opened at 165 pounds where junior Tony Denke defeated Justin Christensen, 5-2, to give the Huskers an early 3-0 lead. Fourteenth-ranked Ati Conner followed Denke's win with a decision of his own, defeating Steven Schenk, 4-2. At 184 pounds, Kevin Kessner narrowly defeated NU's freshman Matt Fletcher, 4-3, to cut the Nebraska lead three. Vering extended the lead with his milestone 13-6 decision over Craig Rumsey. Last season's 197-pound NCAA champion, Vering now owns a 100-21 career record at Nebraska. He is 3-0 this season. Wyoming heavyweight Brad Steele cut the team score to 9-7, with a 13-5 major decision victory over Pat Miron, but that is as close as the Cowboys would get. Redshirt freshman Jason Powell picked up his second pin on the year over John Faczak just 1:42 into the match. At 133 pounds, All-American Todd Beckerman continued his hot start, with his third consecutive pin on the year. He pinned Kelly McConville at the 4:07 mark. True freshman Dusty Spaulding won his first collegiate match with a 4-2 decision over Thad Trujillo. Sophomore Justin Flores then defeated Mark Hamrick, 12-9, at 149 pounds. Two-time All-American Bryan Snyder closed out the evening with a 23-10 major decision over Levi Prevost to up the final team tally to 31-7.
