If you want to demonstrate your support for reforming Title IX, attend the final meeting of the Commission on Opportunity in Athletics in Washington DC. Although no outside speakers are allowed at the sessions, the meetings are open to the general public. We know that the pro-quota activists groups will be out in force at this meeting. We cannot permit them to influence the Commissioners by their actions; we must make just as strong a showing by our loyal supporters that understand the need for changing the proportionality prong of Title IX. The media will be giving these meetings plenty of attention. We want them to understand that we are just as passionate about saving men's sports as the quota activists are for keeping the status quo. If we don't show up in droves, our absence will deliver the wrong message! We want the Commission members (and the press) to look out into the audience and see that there are hundreds of active supporters - dads, moms, coaches, athletes, etc. - that are serious about eliminating the growing discrimination against males in our sports community. At the meeting, Commission members will be debating their ideas and finalizing their recommendations regarding possible reforms to Title IX. You will be able to see and hear first-hand the different ideas for change and better understand how the Final Report is molded. The meetings will be held at Hotel Washington, 515 15th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20004 Phone: 202-638-5900 fax: 202-638-1594. (Note: This is a new hotel location, as of 1/14) They will begin at 9:00am on Wednesday, January 29 and continue all day. On Thursday, January 30 will be the final session, starting again starting at 9:00am and lasting until 1:00pm. In an effort to provide adequate accommodations for those attending , you are asked to register with the Commission office by email at OpportunityinAthletics@ed.gov or fax 202-260-4560. Please include in your registration your name, affiliation if appropriate, and contact information. You are asked to be at the sessions as early in the morning as possible since seating and attendance will be on a first-come first-serve basis. If your schedule permits, try to stay for the entire day - but if you cannot take the whole day off, please attend for a few hours to show your support. Members of the College Sports Council will be at the hotel to guide you and will distribute some literature regarding necessary Title IX reform. If you have questions, send an e-mail to info@savingsports.org and we will do our best to help you.
