The nation's top collegiate programs will converge on the campus of Ohio State University to compete in the 2003 Cliff Keen/NWCA National Dual Meet Championships January 18-19, 2003. This year's event will also include a marquee high school event on January 17. For the second consecutive year the Cliff Keen/NWCA National Duals will feature 48 teams, as NCAA Division I, II and III will all conduct their own 16-team individual dual meet championships concurrently at Ohio State. The championships will consist of 90 dual meets on 12 mats over two days at St. John's Arena and French Field House. In what will be the highlight of the weekend, the championship finals of all three divisions will be run simultaneously in St. John's Arena. For the first time ever, the event will also include a six-team high school event preceding the championships on Friday, January 17 in St. John Arena. The event will feature nationally ranked St. Paris Graham and Mater Dei (IN) along with Lakota East, Parkersburg South (WV), Teas Valley and Lisbon Beaver. Match times for the high school event will begin at 4p.m on Friday. The national dual meet championships were first held in 1989 after being founded by John Graham. Graham, who is the originator of the Virginia Duals, founded the duals after seeing there was a need to crown a national dual meet champion in wrestling. He started the national duals as an extension of his own Virginia Duals. In 1992, the NWCA assumed the management of the national duals and it has since become one of the signature events of the organization. It was at this time, the NWCA board of directors voted to recognize one of the great pioneers of the sport, Cliff Keen by naming the event in his honor. The national duals became known as the Cliff Keen/NWCA National Duals. Keen, was one of the original founders of the NWCA in 1938 and was the president for the first five years. The University of Minnesota, Central Oklahoma and Augsburg will all be returning to defend their 2002 titles. All three schools went onto capture the NCAA Championships in their respective divisions later last year.
