Bloomington, Ind. - Christmas came early for the Hoosiers Saturday afternoon as they upset the ninth-ranked Missouri Tigers in dramatic fashion, 20-18.    "It was a great team effort," said head coach Duane Goldman. "Our guys really wanted the win and they worked very hard to get it. They have been committed in training. It is a true high point so far, but we have a lot of work to do and have to stay focused."    The match began with a bang for the Hoosiers as 197-pound, No. 10 Pat DeGain (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) defeated Dante Stone by major decision, 11-3. It was not the first time DeGain and Stone faced off as DeGain pinned Stone earlier this season in the Missouri Open en route to winning the197-pound title.    With a 4-0 advantage over Mizzou, true freshman Joel Powers (Rockford, Ill./Rockford East) took the mat to face No. 17 Kevin Herron in the heavyweight match. The Hoosiers dropped their first match of the day when Herron pinned Powers in 3:30 to put the team score in Missouri's advantage, 6-4.    At 125 pounds, redshirt freshman, No. 16 Joe Dubuque (Bloomfield, N.J./Glen Ridge) squared off with the Tigers' Mark Bader. IU got its second major decision of the day when Dubuque won 15-6. With the win over Bader, Dubuque extends his dual meet win streak to three and is one of only two Hoosiers in the lineup to remain undefeated in duals through three meets. The team score then moved back in favor of the Hoosiers, 8-6.    In the 133 pound match, fifth-year senior Greg Schaefer (Evansville, Ind./Mater Dei) looked for his second-straight decision and found it against Mizzou's Chris McCormick, 6-3.    The spotlight match of the day arrived when 141-pound Coyte Cooper (Anacortes, Wash./Anacortes) of IU and Missouri's J.P. Reese faced off. Ranked sixth in the nation, Cooper looked for his fifth-straight defeat of Reese and his second of the season after claiming a major decision over Reese in the Missouri Open early this season. However, ranked 13th in the country, Reese would not be any easy opponent. In the end, Cooper decisioned Reese, 9-2. With three-straight victories, IU held a 14-6 advantage in team scoring. Along with Dubuque, Cooper is the only Indiana grappler to maintain an unblemished dual meet record. Cooper has not lost a match since losing a 3-2 decision to Central Michigan's Jason Mester in the championship finale of the Missouri Open on Nov. 24.    A tough spot for the Hoosiers so far this season, the middle weights remained elusive to victory. 149 pound true freshman Matt Cooper (Anacortes, Wash./Bloomington (Ind.) South) lost to No. 6 Jeremy Spates by pin in 1:31. At 157, Missouri's No. 14 Kenny Burleson met redshirt freshman Mike Engberg ( Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) and claimed the 5-0 victory. Mizzou then held the 15-14 upper hand. When Missouri's No. 5 Tyron Woodley decisioned Alex LaPointe (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North), 6-1, the Tigers extended their advantage to 18-14.    With two matches remaining, the Hoosiers needed two victories to upset the No. 9 team in the country.    At 174, redshirt freshman Brady Richardson (Vincennes, Ind./Lincoln) and Missouri's Matt Turner battled to the very end when Richardson gained the 3-2 decision. Down by a point, 18-17, IU needed to come away from the184 pound match with, at the very least, a win to put the team score in favor of the Hoosiers.    Fifth year senior and captain Ty Matthews (Jerome, Idaho/Jerome) took it down to the wire against Missouri's Jeff Foust. The grapplers battled through nearly three periods and it appeared as though the match - and the dual meet - would head to overtime tied at 2-2. With :21 seconds remaining, however, Matthews got a two-point takedown and held on for the individual 4-2 decision and the 20-18 team victory.    Indiana improves to 1-2 in dual meets while Missouri falls to 3-2 in duals, despite defeating No. 13 Purdue Friday evening in West Lafayette.    The Hoosiers will enjoy a brief break in action until they return to action in the Buckeye Duals on Jan. 4 in Columbus, Ohio.
