2000 Olympic Champion Brandon Slay will lead a group of Junior wrestlers to Beijing, China, August 1-10, 2003. The tour is being sanctioned through USA Wrestling and is being organized by World Sports Alliance Inc., "The Official International Exchange Coordinator of USA Wrestling." On this tour, athletes will participate in joint training sessions and team competitions with various Chinese squads. In China, the wrestlers attend full-year sport schools where roughly 70% percent of the day is devoted to wrestling related activities and the remaining thirty percent to academics. For this reason, the Chinese have consistently provided challenging competition. When off the mats, the U.S. group will visit many exciting and world famous attractions such as the Great Wall, the Forbidden City with its impressive Imperial Palace, the Ming Tombs, Summer Palace and the Temple of Heaven. Athletes between the ages of 16 and 20, with a minimum of two years of wrestling experience, are encouraged to apply for this tour. World Sports Alliance is also currently accepting applications for a number of other international tours planned for the Spring and Summer of 2003. Other destinations include Greece, Bulgaria, Scotland, France and Belgium. Opportunities are available for Kid, Cadet, Junior and University Division athletes. Other coaches tentatively scheduled to lead teams abroad include two-time Olympian Lee Allen, five-time National Champion and Olympian Frank Famiano and NCAA Champion and US Nationals Champion Dan Chaid. Wade Genova, of World Sports Alliance explained, "It is our goal to staff our international developmental tours with the greatest coaches and leaders we can possibly find. Take Brandon Slay for instance. He is one of the hottest clinicians right now, as he is our most recent Olympic Champion. Those wrestlers who travel with him to China will have access to him for 10 days. What kind of impact do you think that will have on them?
