AMES, Iowa - Iowa State won eight-of-ten matches with pins from Nate Gallick and Woodley Milord to dominate Tennessee-Chattanooga, 34-7, and end its three-dual losing streak, Thursday at Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones improve to 2-3 and UTC drops to 2-3 for the season. "This win helped the spirit of our wrestlers and will get them thinking positively," head coach Bobby Douglas said. "We are on the right track and just need to keep improving." Redshirt freshman Gallick pinned the Mocs' Jake Harris at the 3:27-mark of their 149-pound match. With no scoring in the first period by either wrestler, Gallick tallied the first points with a reversal at the 1:46-mark in the second period, and 13 seconds later had the fall. The Cyclone, ranked 17th in the nation by InterMat, upped his record to a team-leading nine wins. ISU's 184-pound sophomore Milord notched his sixth win for the season after dropping the last three matches. Milord pinned Tennessee-Chattanooga's Drew Roberts in 1:02 after garnishing a takedown within the first 40 seconds of the opening period. Co-captain Aaron Holker, the defending 141-pound NCAA champion, remains undefeated this season after collecting his eighth victory in a major decision over UTC's Jared Sullivan, 9-1. Also earning their eighth victories of the year were fellow captains Zach Roberson and Austen Palmer at 149 and 184 pounds, respectively. Iowa State takes a two-week break before traveling to the always-competitive Midlands Championship in Evanston, Ill., Dec. 29-30.
