University of Minnesota senior wrestler Ryan Lewis (Vernal, Utah/Uintah HS) has been named the Big Ten Wrestler of the Week, following his outstanding performance last week at the 2002 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. Lewis captured the 133-pound title at the 46-team tournament in dominating fashion. The third-ranked and top-seeded Golden Gopher went 5-0 at the event and defeated No. 4 Kevin Black of Wisconsin, the second seed, 5-2 in the championship bout. For the tournament, Lewis tallied two falls, including a 4:19 pin over No. 4 seed Brandon Lauer of West Virginia. Lewis, 7-1 this season, outscored his opponents 28-7 in the other matches and only allowed one takedown in the entire tournament. This is Lewis' fourth Big Ten Wrestler of the Week honor of his career and first of the 2002-03 season.
