COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Board of Directors of the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation announced today the appointment of Darryl Seibel as Interim President and Chief Executive Officer. Seibel takes over for Dave Ogrean, who earlier this week was named Executive Director of USA Football, the first national advocacy organization representing all levels of amateur football. Created through the combined efforts of the National Football League and the National Football League Players Association, USA Football will support local, regional and national amateur football programs and create alliances to further build the game. Ogrean begins his new assignment on Monday, December 9. Seibel began his career in 1990 working in the Communications Department of USA Wrestling, serving with the organization for two years. He was the wrestling press officer at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain. Laura Holland, Chair of the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation Board of Directors, also announced the formation of a search committee that will oversee the process of selecting Ogrean's successor. Dave Palenchar, who is Secretary of the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation Board of Directors, will chair the seven-member search committee. In addition to Holland and Palenchar, other members of the search committee are Sports Corporation Board Members Tom James, Stan Kensinger, Lou Mellini, Terry Sullivan and Fred Whitacre. "As President and CEO of the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation, Dave Ogrean has left an indelible mark on our community," said Holland. "Dave brought his vision, energy, creativity and enthusiasm to our organization and charted an ambitious course for the future. We appreciate all that Dave has done, not just for the Sports Corporation, but for Colorado Springs, and we wish him nothing but continued success in his exciting, new endeavor." "With Darryl serving as Interim President and CEO, we will have the continuity of leadership to assure that the initiatives put in place under Dave's direction will continue," added Holland. "Darryl is well-respected by everyone on the staff, the Board of Directors and our entire sports community, and we are confident the organization will continue to move forward under his leadership." Seibel, 35, joined the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation in August of 2000 as Director of Operations and Strategic Planning. Earlier this year, he was promoted to Chief Operating Officer. Seibel has worked closely with Ogrean in managing the day-to-day operations of the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation, including the development and implementation of the organization's strategic operating plan. He has also played an important role in the development and management of Sports Corporation signature properties such as the Rocky Mountain State Games, as well as the pursuit of national and international sports events for Colorado Springs. Previously, Seibel served as Associate Director of Media and Public Relations for the United States Olympic Committee from 1999-2000; Director of Media and Public Relations for USA Hockey from 1992-99; and Assistant Director of Communications for USA Wrestling from 1990-92.
