Two U.S. wrestlers were defeated in the repechage round (wrestlebacks) and did not advance to the semifinals at the 2000 World University Greco-Roman Championships, Tuesday, Nov. 7 in Tokyo, Japan.    The two athletes who were unable to advance through the repechage rounds were Darnell Lollis (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 127.75 pounds and Joe Warren (Colorado Springs, Colo./Michigan WC) at 138.75 pounds. Both had placed second in their pool competitions, but were still eligible for the fourth and final position in the semifinals.    Lollis won his first repechage match, defeating Laszlo Bona of Hungary, 9-6. In his second repechage bout, he was pinned by Jarkko Ala-Huikku of Finland in 3:39 and Ala-Huikku advanced to the semifinals.    Lollis completed the tournament with a 2-2 record. Lollis is a member of the 2000-2001 Greco-Roman National Team, holding down a No. 3 national ranking. He is a U.S. Olympic Training Center resident athlete.    Warren dropped both of his repechage matches, losing to Ali Ashkam Agbolagh of Iran, 6-3 and Mitsuoki Hirai of Japan, 10-1. Ashkam Agbolagh won the repechage and advanced to the semifinals.    Warren finished the tournament with a 1-3 record. He is a former star at the Univ. of Michigan and is now a U.S. Olympic Training Center resident athlete.    Chael Sonnen (Eugene, Ore./Dave Schultz WC) is the only U.S. semifinalist, after winning his pool competition at 187.25 pounds on Monday. He had no matches on Tuesday.     Sonnen owns a No. 3 national ranking in the United States and is a member of 2000-2001 Greco-Roman Team USA. He is a star athlete for the Univ. of Oregon.    Four other U.S. wrestlers completed their pool competition and were eliminated from medal contention on Tuesday. They included Cory Posey (E. Lansing, Mich./New York AC) at 152 pounds, Carl Fronhofer (Pittsburgh, Pa./PWC) at 167.5 pounds, Joshua Hall (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army) at 213.75 pounds and Josh Etu (Charlottesville, Va./ATWA) at 286 pounds.     Posey was edged by Ilgar Adbulov of Azerbaijan, 4-3, and Abdulov advanced to the semifinals. Posey ended the tournament with an 0-2 record. Posey attends Michigan State.    Fronhofer won his match on Tuesday, defeating Hristov Olivier of Belgium, 5-0. Yusuf Duzer of Turkey, who beat Fronhofer on Monday, advanced to the semifinals. Fronhofer ended the tournament with a 1-1 record. He was a 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier and attends the Univ. of Pittsburgh.    Hall was pinned on Tuesday by Marek Sitnik of Poland in 1:23. His record for the tournament was 0-3. Hall is ranked No. 4 nationally on the Senior level at 213.75 pounds.     Etu completed his competition by losing to Alireza Gharabi of Iran, 7-0. Etu finished with an 0-3 record. He was a 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials qualifier and attends the Univ. of Virginia.    The other U.S. team member, Nathan Piasecki (Marquette, Mich./USOEC), was eliminated on Monday with an 0-2 record at 119 pounds.    The Greco-Roman athletes are coached by Greco-Roman Developmental Coach Ike Anderson and Greco-Roman Resident Coach Anatoly Petrosyan, who work full-time at USA Wrestling's national headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colo.    To participate, an athlete must be 17-28 years old, must be a current college student, or be graduated from a university within a year of the competition.    The U.S. team was selected based upon performance on the national level, with National Team ranking, Olympic and Regional Trials and Resident athlete participation the top criteria. In addition, performance at USA Wrestling age-group national events was also part of the selection process.    The competition is being held at the Sports Hall at the National Olympic Memorial Youth Center in Tokyo.
