USA Wrestling, the national governing body for amateur wrestling in the United States, is proud to report that the organization has continued to grow at all levels, setting membership records in five major categories. Sanctioned events were also at a new level, with 1,666 USA Wrestling events during the 2001-02 season, breaking the 1998-99 mark of 1,537 events. The membership records were possible through the efforts of USA Wrestling's volunteer leaders on the regional, state and local levels, who provided the most comprehensive program of wrestling activities in the nation. "It is a tribute to USA Wrestling's volunteers that the organization has set records in every membership category in 2002," said Mark Scott, Director of State Services. "These dedicated individuals spend countless hours conducting practices, organizing events, raising funds and traveling across the country so that athletes of all ages and ability can participate in our great sport. USA Wrestling's State Chairpersons are to be commended for their leadership and vision in guiding the activities of our 49 state associations. These key volunteer administrators bring it all together at the local and state levels."
