Rowdy Lundegreen (184 pounds) and Juan Mora (141 pounds) each had pins and seven Titans won their bouts as Cal State Fullerton trounced Fresno State, 32-14, in a nonconference dual wrestling meet at Golden West College Wednesday night. Fullerton improved to 4-0 under first-year Coach Dan Hicks and already has more wins than it picked up in each of the last five seasons. Fresno State dropped to 0-1. The Titans got an 11-1 major decision from Brett Gordon (149 pounds) to open the meet and Dustin Vance (157 pounds) followed with a narrow 3-2 decision to put the Titans up, 7-0. The Bulldogs' Ben Baca picked up a major decision over Risto Marttinen at 165 pounds to draw Fresno State within three, but that was as close as the Bulldogs would get. Perhaps the turning point came in the closing seconds of the 174-pound bout as Fullerton's Chris Carlino scored a late takedown to key a 5-4 decision and a 10-4 Titan lead. The Titans also got a major decision victory from David Rodriguez in the 133-pound class. Fresno State was led by Marcio Botelho, who pinned Landon Seefeldt in the 197-pound bout with just two seconds remaining. Both teams will head to Las Vegas for tournament action this weekend.
