Hilltoppers Down 12th Ranked Gannon, 22-21

WEST LIBERTY, W.V. - The Gannon wrestling team opened the dual portion of its 2002-03 schedule with a tough 22-21 loss at West Liberty State Wednesday night. The Hilltoppers avenged a 33-9 loss at Gannon last year.     Each team earned five victories and two pins, but West Liberty used a major decision at 125 to capture the one-point victory.     R.J. Paterniti (Erie, PA-Cathedral Prep) and Dan Shields (Waterford, PA-Fort LeBoeuf) recorded pins for the Golden Knights. Paterniti pinned Joe Patterson at 3:57 of the 141-pound match. Shields pinned Chris Taylor at 2:45 of the 197-pound match.     Lyneil Mitchell (Butler, PA-Butler), ranked No. 1 in Division II, remained undefeated with a 7-1 victory over Tom Poe at heavyweight. The senior moved to 9-0 this season.     Dave Spinelli (Erie, PA-Tech Memorial) improved to 9-1 with a 12-5 victory over Chris Taylor at 184. Joe Cavalier (Newbury, OH-Newbury) picked up Gannon's final victory with a 10-4 decision over Robbie Williams at 133.     Gannon, ranked 12th nationally, dropped to 0-1 after its first dual match of the season. West Liberty improved to 1-0. The Golden Knights return to action Saturday, December 7 at Shippensburg. The match is scheduled for 4 p.m.
