Trio of Falls Highlight East Stroudsburg Victory over Wilkes

East Stroudsburg, Pa. - A trio of falls highlighted East Stroudsburg University's victory Wednesday evening over Wilkes University. The Warriors received pins from Mark Smith (141), John Carr (174) and Shawn Smith (184) on their way to a 32-15 win over the Colonels. ESU takes their mark to 2-0 in dual matches while Wilkes drops to 3-3 on the season. The Warriors will host Franklin & Marshall College on Thursday night with an 8:00 p.m. start. Wilkes started off strong as Jeremy Mayer won the 125 match by forfeit. The Colonels saw John Muscarella come from a 4-1 deficit to ESU's Kevin Rake at 133 into an 8-4 advantage after two periods. Muscarella went on for a 9-6 decision to put his team ahead 9-0 after two bouts. The Warriors then took control of the match with a string of seven consecutive wins. Mark Smith (Upper Perkiomen/Upper Perkiomen) started the stretch with his sixth fall of the season at 4:41 over Patrick O'Hara for the 141 match. ESU took the lead for good in the match when Jason Giandomenico (Allentown, Pa./Dieruff) recorded a major decision, 15-5, over Jon Yenchak for a 10-9 Warrior lead. The run of victories continued at 157. Matt Dudeck (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) had a tough 3-1 decision over local product Erik Hansen (Broadheadsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley). The Warriors' second major decision of the night came from Brandon Mihalko (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) at 165. Mihalko took a 6-2 first period lead and worked into a 16-7 major over Sean Davies to take the match tally to 17-9. ESU put the match away with a pair of falls in the following two bouts. At 174, John Carr (Aunburn, Pa./Blue Mountain) recorded a fall over Fritz Delva at 3:29 and 184-pounder Shawn Smith (Unityville, Pa./Hughsville) pinned Jonathan Neyerlin at 4:15 to give ESU a commanding 29-9 score. Stanley Foster recorded the Warriors seventh-straight win. Foster decisioned Eric Bleich, 6-4, in the 197-pound match he controlled the whole way to make it 32-9. The Colonels' Cory Fleisher ran his record to a perfect 8-0 on the year as he pinned Mike Pahira at heavyweight at 4:01 for the final score of 32-15 ESU.
